Getting cheap young drivers
car
insurance
This is
quite a headache for most young people. How do you get young drivers
car insurance without paying a fortune? While there's nothing that you
can do about your age-associated insurance risk, there are a few
measures that will help to reduce costs. Any measures taken do, of
course, need to be lawful and cannot be fraudulant.
This rules out a popular but risky practice of allowing a parent or
other older person to 'front' your policy, alleging that they are the
primary driver when in fact, the young person is the primary driver.
Insurance companies look out for this, often detect it, and it will
invalidate any claim regardless of how costly that claim may be.
We also advise against third party cover as this leaves you and your
passengers potantially uninsured for injuries or other losses. Cheaper
comprehensive cover is invariably available anyway via price comaprison
sites; so an argument for it can't be made on the basis of cost.
Here, then, are aspects that you can address and should aim to address
as much as possible.
First, your car is the most important factor. You need one that's less
than Thatchem group 10 and, naturally enough, the lower the better. A
Clio or Corsa are good choices to keep down costs for young drivers car
insurance.
If you can fit security-enhancing devices, that's a good thing. Make
sure that they are Thatchem approved and that they can therefore impact
on your insurance premium.
Where you park overnight matters too. If you know someone that could
help with overnight garaging or off-road parking, all these things can
help.
If you're not expecting to use your car much, you can cap the annual
mileage.
It is okay to list an over-25 as a second driver and, funnily enough,
this can reduce your premium.
Second to your choice of car, the next most important aspect is how you
buy your young drivers car insurance. Obviously, this is not a time to
be over-inclusive in terms of must-have policy features. 'No frills' is
the order of the day. That is not to say that the cheapest price on a
price comparison site is necessarily an acceptable choice, but it does
make sense to compare quotes in this way to reduce costs.
An alternative is the popular young drivers car insurance broker,
Endsleigh Insurance. Any good insurance
supermarket gives you
access to
these options.
As a final point, there are even those that elect to train for, take
and pass their advanced driving test. While this is not for everyone,
it will certainly reduce the cost of cover.
